Welcome to pack meeting Number 2 of the 2012-2013 year. Here is some important information on upcoming activities and other pack happenings:

Next Pack Meeting: The next pack meeting will be held on Wednesday, November 7th at 6:30 to 7:45 at the School Community room.

o We will have the annual uniform inspection - Each scout should wear their full uniform including the following:

§ Scout shirt – blue for cubs and beige or blue for WEBELOS

§ Matching scout pants – green slacks with beige shirt and blue slacks with blue Cub Scout shirt. Jeans will result in 1 point off the inspection score.

§ Scout belt

§ Appropriate neckerchief with slide of current rank

§ All patches in the correct location on the uniform current rank badge in place

§ Appropriate socks – dark blue for cubs and green for WEBELOS with beige shirt and green pants

§ Scout hat

§ Cub scout smile and positive attitude

§ Neat and tidy appearance – Fingernails, clean hands, shirt tucked in and buttoned correctly, pants straight, shoes tied, And hat on straight.

§ Shoes should be hiking boots, or a brown shoe… Sneakers will not result in a deduction, but will not provide a higher score either.

o We will also take the pack pictures and Pine Wood Derby pictures during this pack meeting

· Leader’s/ Parent’s meeting: A leader’s meeting is scheduled for Thursday, October 18th from 7:00 to 8:00 pm in room 119 (upstairs small conference room) in the school. Please attend if able.

o Items to be discussed include

§ Pack awards for the Popcorn Fundraiser

§ Pack overnight trip to Either Battleship cove or the Intrepid

§ Blue and gold banquet

§ Pinewood derby

§ Bowling/ Parent shopping activity

· Bike Rodeo – Saturday, October 20th from 1:00 to 3:00 pm at the commuter lot on route 149 in Colchester. Take Route 2 to exit 16 (route 149) take left and the parking lot will be on the right. Please wear your CLASS B uniform shirt with appropriate pants / jacket/ gloves/ etc.

o Please be sure to bring your bike and bike helmet. Bikes with training wheels are welcome. We will group the boys appropriately and adjust the length of the ride based on ability.

o SIBLINGS ARE WELCOME.

· Haunted Woods- Saturday October 27th from 6:00 to 9:30 pm at Camp Tadma in Bozrah. This is for Individual family Participation although I will be there at 6:30 to go through with my Boys… if anybody would like to meet me at 6:00 to follow me out to the camp let me know in advance.

o This is designed t be a very fun evening…NOT SCARY… and appropriate for Cub Scout aged boys.

· Popcorn Orders- Popcorn orders are due on November 10th – the same day as the Pack Hike. Dens should turn in one order per den to Mike Steinbrecher. All cash should be converted to a check and turned in that way…

· Training Pow Wow- November 17th at the East Windsor High school. The pack will pay for anybody interested in participating in a day of training.

· www.pack39.com - The Pack webpage is UPDATED…. Tom Paquette is the Web Master for the Pack. (webmaster@pack39.com).

· Facebook: “Like” Cub Scout Pack 39 for Facebook updates.

· Volunteers needed – The following positions are open and volunteers are needed to fill them. Please consider helping the pack to provide your son with a valuable Scout Program. I would be happy to discuss any of these positions/ jobs with you. (see additional sign-up sheet to be circulated)

o Assistant Pack Leader

o Popcorn Kernel to take over this year – Speak to John Arruda for position details

o Summer Camp/ Camping Chair – must attend summer camp with boys and be willing to plan additional Pack/ Family camping trip

o Parents to run events for next year (Committee Members)

§ Pack sleep over… make reservations; collect money; give pack updates and ask for participants

§ Blue and Gold Banquet

§ Pine Wood derby

§ Pack Hike

§ Pack Bike Rodeo

§ Awards Chair to work with Nancy Gianetti this year
