Akela’s Newsletter May 7, 2014

Welcome to pack meeting Number 9 of the 2013-2014 year. Here is some important information on upcoming activities and other pack happenings:

· Next Pack Meeting: The next pack meeting will be the Pack Picnic with rank graduation to be held on Sunday June 8th at Blish Park Pavilion. All family members are welcome including siblings and parents. Please sign up online and indicate the number of attendees. We will need to know by Sunday June 1st so that we can be sure to have enough food for all.

§ We will start the day at 3:00 with some activities for the scouts and siblings. Please wear your Class B uniform shirt. It would be good for the scouts to have their Class A shirts to put on over their class B for the graduation.

§ Please feel free to bring a bathing suit to enjoy the chilly water.

§ We will plan to have dinner at 5:00

§ We will then have the awards and graduation portion of the ceremony from 6:00 to 7:00

§ The Pack will provide the food and drinks for all. Desserts are welcome if you feel like baking and sharing.

o Memorial Day Parade: The Pack will march in the parade on Memorial day. We will meet in the bus parking lot at 1:00 on Monday, May 26th. Scouts should were their complete class A uniform including shorts/ pants, hat, neckerchief, scout shirt with correct patches.

§ Be sure to bring something to drink

§ Candy to toss to the crowd is ok.

§ You are asked to stay for the duration of the memorial service on the Town Green following the parade.

o Fishing Derby May 16th - Fishing at Glastonbury Fish and Game 4:30 - 8:00. This is the annual GF&G fishing outing that is hosted for Scouting every year. They have a nice barbeque with hot dogs and hamburgers; Make sure that you bring a pole and bait. There will be a sign up on the Web site. Sign-up deadline is May 14th (for dinner purposes).

o Blish Park Clean Up day: Saturday, May 17th from 10:00 to 1:00. Meet at or near the pavilion.

§ A big part of scouting is helping out in the community. This year we decided to help the town with a couple of hours of clean-up at Blish Park.

§ All scouts should arrive at 10:00 and we will work until 12:00 at which time the Pack will provide Pizza for all that helped out.

§ The pack will provide rubber gloves, trash bags, and the pizza and drinks.

§ Please sign up on the web page so that we know how much pizza to buy. Sign-up deadline is May 14th (for Pizza purposes) .

o Summer Camp – We will be attending camp during the week of June 29th through July 4h. All scouts that are interested should let Mr. Steinbrecher know if you are planning on attending

§ Cub scouts are welcome to attend day camp, or can register with the camp as a “provisional Scout” during any week of camp. Please see Mr. Steinbrecher with any questions.

§ "Cub Country" is hosting an "Open House" on Saturday, May 10th 10-12:30 at June Norcross camp in Ashford.

· New t-shirts in Youth small and Youth Medium are here.

· www.pack39.com - The Pack webpage is UPDATED…. Tom Paquette is the Web Master for the Pack. (webmaster@pack39.com). We're looking for a new webmaster in the upcoming months.

· Facebook: “Like” Cub Scout Pack 39 for Facebook updates.

· Volunteers needed – The following positions are open and volunteers are needed to fill them. Please consider helping the pack to provide your son with a valuable Scout Program. I would be happy to discuss any of these positions/ jobs with you. (see additional sign-up sheet to be circulated)

o Assistant Pack Leader

o Webmaster and/or Pinewood Derby computer operations

o Summer Camp (2015) and/or Camping Chair (2014-2015 school year) – must attend summer camp with boys and be willing to plan additional Pack/ Family camping trip
