Akela’s Newsletter May 8, 2013

Welcome to pack meeting Number 7 of the 2012-2013 year. Here is some important information on upcoming activities and other pack happenings:

· Updates/ Additions to calendar:

o Leader’s meeting – Re-scheduled again to May 23 to be held in the school Café starting at 7:00 pm. I would like a parent from each family to attend. Please let me know if this become an issue.

o Memorial Day Parade: The Pack will march in the parade on Memorial day. We will meet in the bus parking lot at 1:00 on Monday may 27th. Scouts should were their complete class A uniform including shorts/ pants, hat, neckerchief, scout shirt with correct patches.

§ Be sure to bring something to drink

§ Candy to toss to the crowd is ok.

§ You are asked to stay for the duration of the memorial service on the Town Green following the parade.

o Scout Expo in Hebron – Friday May 31st through Sunday June 2nd at the Hebron Fair Grounds. There will be over 10,000 scouts in attendance. Tickets can be purchased the day of the event at the ticket booths.

§ All cubs are encouraged to go for the day on Saturday. There will be plenty of activities for the entire family. Scouts should wear their Class A uniform. I would suggest wearing the Class B shirt underneath in case you wish to take off the Class A shirt.

§ The Scout show for Saturday night would be included in your day admission and will include the group “Stomp”.

§ If any family is interested in staying overnight either Friday or Sat, please let me know as the scout troop has a campsite and will have some spare space for a certain number of tents.

o Pack Cookout – Scheduled for Sunday June 9th at Blish Park Pavilion. The games and festivities will start at 3:00 in the afternoon and will go to about 7:00 pm. All family members are encouraged to come. There will be lots of games and activities for all of your family members.

o Summer Camp – Webelos will be attending camp during the week of July 14 through the 19th. All scouts that are interested should register by May 16th to avoid a $25 late fee. Please let Mr Steinbrecher Know if you are interested in attending

§ Cub scouts are welcome to attend day camp, or can register with the camp as a “provisional Scout” during any week of camp. Please see Mr. Steinbrecher with any questions.

· Facebook: “Like” Cub Scout Pack 39 for Facebook updates.

· Volunteers needed – The following positions are open and volunteers are needed to fill them. Please consider helping the pack to provide your son with a valuable Scout Program. I would be happy to discuss any of these positions/ jobs with you. (see additional sign-up sheet to be circulated)

o Assistant Pack Leader

o Summer Camp/ Camping Chair – must attend summer camp with boys and be willing to plan additional Pack/ Family camping trip

o Parents to run events for next year (Committee Members)

§ Pack sleep over… make reservations; collect money; give pack updates and ask for participants

§ Blue and Gold Banquet

§ Pine Wood derby

§ Awards Chair to work with Nancy Gianetti this year
