Welcome to pack meeting Number 6 of the 2013-2014 year. Here is some important information on upcoming activities and other pack happenings:

Blue and Gold Banquet to celebrate the 84th anniversary of Cub scouting.

Next Pack Meeting: The next pack meeting will be the Pine Wood Derby to be held on Sunday March 2nd.

    • Registration for the races will be from 12:00 to 12:30.
        • The races will run from 1:00 to Approximately 3:00
        • There will be a concession stand with snacks, pizza, and drinks
        • Scouts are expected to wear their Class A uniforms.
        • We will have a “repair” table set up with additional weights, drills, hot glue, and other necessary tools for the use of anybody that runs into issues during registration and or during the races.
        • Reminder of some of the rules for the races:
            • The cars can weigh no more than 5 oz.
            • The wheel slots that are cut into the car must be used…. You cannot move the axels on the car
            • The width between the wheels must match the width of the original block of wood
            • The car length must match the original block of wood at the wheels/ bottom
            • The wheels and axels (nails) provided with the original kit must be used.
            • The sides of the car cannot extend beyond the wheels
            • Your car number must be shown on the car as either part of the design, or a sticker will be applied. Do not place numbers on your car that do not match your given number.
            • No liquid lubricants are allowed
    • On Friday February 14 we will have the annual movie night. Since it is St. Valentines Day we are offering to watch your kids during this time. We will show either “Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2” or “Epic”.
        • The scouts/ family members should plan to arrive in the school café at 6:30 to find you spot and get set up
        • You are encouraged to bring a sleeping bag, blankets, pillows, camp chairs… whatever you want to be comfortable on the café floor.
        • Pajamas are encourage but not mandatory.
        • The pack will provide a few snacks…. A special Valentine ’s Day snack and popcorn. Families are asked to provide their own drinks.
        • If you would like to leave your child, you should plan to be back to pick them up by 8:30pm.
        • No electronic games/ stereos/ phones will be allowed during the movie.
    • On Sunday February 16th the St. John Fisher Catholic Church will be celebrating Scout Sunday during its 10:30
        • The Scout Sunday Mass has been set up for February 16th at the 10:30 Mass. All Scouts are expected to come in Class A uniform with no hats. We are asking everyone to arrive by 10:00 so that we can be seated. I will have a number of pews reserved for us based on those who are going.
        • After Mass: Typically after Mass we will go downstairs to have a brief social period. This is an opportunity for the parishioners to ask question of the boys and learn more about Religious Scout Awards that are available by the Diocese of Hartford. There will not be any presentations of religious awards during the Mass, but it is at the discretion of Fr. Sas if he wishes to recognize en masse those who have earned them. For the social period we are asking families to bring a home baked/store bought dozen cookies, brownies or some other confection or a few selections of juice for our coffee period after mass (drop them off downstairs by 10:20 please).
    • On Wednesday February 19th we will have a Pine Wood Derby workshop night her ein the school café.
        • This WILL START AT 6:30 AND GO TO 8:00
        • Bring your car kit, no matter the stage of completion
        • We will provide secrets to getting faster
        • We will have tools, scales, templates and other items to help with your build.
    • On Sunday February 23 the Marlborough Congregational Church will be hosting Scout Sunday at the 10:00 service…. Please see attached flyer for details.
    • On Thursday February 27th we will have the next parents/ Leaders meeting. We will start at 7:00 and be done as close to 8:00 as possible.
    • Update on Trip to the Intrepid Air Craft Carrier:
        • We have two spots available for additional attendees
        • The bus trip will cost $26 per attendee.
        • All attendees should pay balance due today, or set up special payment terms.
        • The last can drive is scheduled for March 22 from 9:00 to 12:00
        • Final plans for the bus pick-up time/ place and drop off time to be discussed at the next Parent/ Leader meeting.
